Reminiscent of classic Harrar and even Yemen Sanani coffees, this coffee from the tiny state of Harari in eastern Ethiopia offers an interesting contrast in character to our prior Ethiopian offering, bringing thick syrupy cocoa to an abundance of blueberry-dominant fruit.

Comparison with coffees of the past is no accident, as Harrar Nafisifi is produced by Abdirashid Abdullahi, nephew of the late Ogsadey, the producer of the legendary Harrar Horse coffees featured at Fonte for so many years. The Nafisifi cherries are harvested from October through November in small family-owned farms around the Ahmar Mountain range and carefully hand-sorted before being sun dried and milled and then sorted yet again to ensure a sweet, chocolatey cup free of overly earthy notes or defects.

This cup is not shy. With a mouthfeel silky and soft, this could be coffee’s equivalent of a chocolate-blueberry milkshake. The body is creamy and viscous, carrying unmistakable aromas of cocoa, mixed sweet berry, black tea and milk-chocolate.
