Amore Blend
Tasting Notes: vibrant cherry, malted milk chocolate, peppery mouthfeel
While the exact origins and identity of St. Valentine are unknown, today his name inspires thoughts of the language of the heart. Whether honoring existing relationships or toasting the thrills of new romance, we like to share in the celebration with the language of coffee.
This year’s Amore blend is built around the vibrant cherry quality of peaberry coffee produced by the Othaya Farmer Cooperative Society at the foot of Mt. Kenya in Nyeri County in Kenya’s Central Province. The smallholder farmers who form the coop vote on and manage the milling, marketing, exporting, profit-sharing, etc., allowing for more control of the entire process and ultimately returning a greater share of the margins to farmers with less siphoned off along the way.
While the Nyeri Othaya presents a classic Kenya profile, crisp and lively with a touch of wine-like acidity, its pungent sharpness is tempered here in the Amore by the creamy, milk-chocolatey body and graham cracker textured mouthfeel of two top ten Cocarive competition finishing micro-lots from the Mantiqueira growing region of Brasil. The blend is rounded out with a malty and somewhat peppery coffee from Papua New Guinea’s Nebilyer Valley whose presence seems to carry and spread the qualities of the Kenya and Brasil more broadly across the pallet.
Amore Blend is available only briefly, so please take advantage of the opportunity to share a cup and consider matters of the heart.
