Rwanda Kivu Kanzu
Kanzu washing station is located in the southwest area of Lake Kivu in the Nyamasheke district in Rwanda, tucked away in a valley surrounded by gorgeous mountain peaks. Coffee cherry is brought down to this station from hundreds of small farmers situated above the valley floor, or they bring the fruit to collection points Kanzu has set up nearby.
Much of this coffee is grown at altitudes of 6,200 feet and above, which works well for this Bourbon variety coffee. After detailed sorting the fully processed and washed coffee is laid out to dry on raised beds to dry in the sun.
Our Rwanda is an all-around complete cup with substantial body, complex aromatics and delightful fruity acidity. We particularly enjoy the juiciness of this coffee, beginning with a full dose of red plum flavor that gradually becomes more tart and berry-like as the cup cools. Savory, dry spice notes of cardamom compliment the fruit throughout. The intensely sweet finish features flavors of honeyed fruit and toffee.
Tasting Notes: Juicy, plum and tart berry, spicy with an intensely sweet finish of honey and toffee.
